You are warmly invited to our Advent Spiral Festival on Saturday, December 1. This is a festival that lies at the very heart of the school experience in the Waldorf School and we hope you will make every effort to attend with your child.
The Advent Spiral brings to the children, in a simple way, the mood of the coming season, moving from darkness to light. The festival begins with “an angel” carrying its light to the center of the evergreen garden and lighting the central candle. Then each child walks the unlit path, one at a time, into the center of the spiral path of evergreens, carrying their apple with a candle in it. They light their candle and carefully place it down along the path as they walk back out of the spiral. Younger children may be accompanied by “an angel” to assist them on their journey. The festival begins in darkness and ends brightly lit by many candles. We then share a moment of silence together before leaving the spiral of light!

SCHEDULE

4:30 p.m. for Kindergarten and Grade 1
6:00 p.m. for Grades 2-7
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start times. Parents will then find their seat in the Great Room.

DROP-OFF

Children should be brought to these classrooms:

• Grades 2-7 will meet in Miss Barber’s classroom (6th/7th grade room)
• Kindergarten students will meet in their classroom. Miss Hierman’s 1st grade may be dropped off in Miss Sarah’s Cottonwood Kindergarten class so that the group may proceed out together.

DRESS ACCORDINGLY

This is a special occasion, please dress your child accordingly. For fire safety, children’s hair must be tied back, and all children must wear pants or leggings (knee-length dresses only.)
We kindly ask that no photographs be taken. If accompanied by very small children, who may not be able to sit through the entire event, please place yourselves near to the doors so you may leave the room if your little one is fussing and needs care.
Older brothers and sisters are welcome to attend as well as grandparents and special friends. Please help us in creating a peace-filled, reverent mood by sitting quietly, joining the group singing or listening to lyre music.
At the close of The Advent Spiral Festival, we ask that you collect your child from the room where you dropped them off and quietly make your way home. Please, no playing on the play yard as you exit for the evening.
