Early Childhood and Grades 1 -3
Each November, we commemorate the Feast of Saint Martin with a Lantern Walk. This year, the 1st through 3rd Grades will present a short play of “Saint Martin and the Beggar” followed by the lantern walk.  A note for Early Childhood families, the story of St. Martin is saved for when children are in the grades school. The preschool and kindergarten child enjoys making a lantern in class and learning lantern songs to be sung at our special event.
Join us as we celebrate and process in a mood of quiet reverence, singing under the stars accompanied with their glimmering lanterns. Younger and older siblings of students participating in the walk and/or pageant are welcome to attend this event with their families.
Let us remember the deed of Saint Martin and keep kindled our inner light during the approaching outer darkness of winter.
Synopsis of the story of St. Martin:
St. Martin, a Roman soldier, swiftly rode on his snow-white steed through icy streets. He met an aged, ailing beggar. “Oh, could you spare a coin for one so poor, I pray?” Martin drew his rich, woolen cloak more tightly around his shoulders, yet all the while the wind cut keenly through the rags the beggar wore. Soon Martin’s heart grew with compassion for the beggar.  He drew his sword and he cut his bright red cloak in two. One half he wrapped around the beggar and by this deed his life did save.
