by Soma Miller, NSWS Grades Biodynamic Teacher
Although old King Winter’s icy touch can certainly be felt in our school garden the grades children have been busy in the yard. In gardening, we are focusing on creating a healthy biodynamic compost pile which can be likened to a living being. Last week Grades 3-5 prepared our pile with the biodynamic compost preparations.
NSWS has officially partnered with Reno Rot Riders and we are receiving 100 lbs of organic vegetable scraps weekly for our pile.
If you haven’t been to visit our compost pile, you are invited to check it out, it is surprisingly tidy. Also, we encourage families to bring in vegetable scraps, egg shells, and coffee grounds to add to the pile.
There was no shortage of eager helpers when it came time to chopping up the pumpkins from our harvest festival before adding them in.
