Early Childhood Leads

Kelsey Dearing

Lead Pre-Kindergarten | Willow

Miss Kelsey is originally from Washington and moved to southern Nevada as a teenager. She attended University of Nevada Reno where she received a degree in Human Development and Family Studies.  Her practicums and internships while in school put her in preschool and pre-K classes in our area. After graduation, Miss Kelsey has worked solely as a teacher in a preschool, and the Pre-K setting at a local daycare center. She participated in an Early Childhood Waldorf intensive workshop with master teacher, Joan Agostinelli. She is enthusiastic about the Waldorf teacher training programs offered and very much looks forward to studying more on the play-based learning and nature exploration of the early childhood classroom.

Sarah Martin

Lead Kindergarten | Cottonwood

Miss Sarah grew up in Reno and attended California Institute of the Arts in Southern California where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts. A few years beyond graduation she lived in New Orleans and taught fine arts for grade school children. Just before Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Sarah discovered the Waldorf School of New Orleans. She joined the school as a teacher after the storm as the school reassembled itself after such displacement and chaos. In 2006, Sarah began her Waldorf teacher training at Rudolf Steiner College in California and took a grades class at the New Orleans school. Additionally, she spent 2 years in upstate New York where she taught at the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School and finished her teacher training at the Alkion Center for Anthroposophy. Back in New Orleans, Sarah continued to work at the Waldorf school there as a grades school teacher. Sarah has experience teaching at Waldorf schools from Nursery – 8th grade – serving on various committees, working as a lead teacher, a subject teacher, a mentor, an assistant, and as a Board member and a member of the Anthroposophical Study Group.

Sarah and her spouse and young son moved back to Reno in the fall of 2016. They are thrilled to be in the same town as both their families and to be back out West and in the mountains. Sarah’s hobbies and interests include painting, drawing, crafting, sewing, cooking, baking, and exploring the Great Outdoor.

Audrey Simmons

Lead Kindergarten | Aspen

Miss Audrey grew up in the tri-state area spending most of her free time outdoors swimming, horseback riding, snowboarding, ice skating, and hiking. She graduated from Manhattanville College in New York with a BA in Sociology and an MA in Teaching in 2009 before moving to Florida to begin her career as an elementary school teacher. She taught 1st-4th grades in the Orange County Public School District in Central Florida during this time. Along the way, Audrey discovered yoga and meditation and soon became a certified yoga instructor. In 2016, she and her husband packed up their RV and took a cross-country trip to start a new chapter in Carson City. She quickly fell in love with Northern Nevada and found her new teaching home here at the Nevada Sage Waldorf School. Audrey is beginning her Waldorf teacher training this summer and can’t wait to see what her first year as a Waldorf teacher has to offer!
