Welcome to 2nd Grade!

The Journey Continues

The second grade is a vital step in a child's educational journey, where we continue to build a solid foundation for lifelong learning. At this stage, our curriculum is rich, diverse, and tailored to the developmental needs of each student as they transition from curious first graders to confident explorers.

Throughout this year, we focus on helping students find meaning through timeless stories and hands-on experiences rather than rote memorization. Our engaging lessons incorporate rotating blocks that include music, art, drama, and handwork, alongside subjects like Spanish, gardening, and outdoor activities. This holistic approach fosters active engagement and a love for learning, preparing students for the exciting challenges ahead.

About 2nd Grade

The second grade year at Nevada Sage Waldorf School is a time of growth, excitement, and exploration as students build on the foundation set in first grade. With a growing sense of confidence, students enter second grade familiar with their daily rhythm, the classroom environment, and their relationship with the class teacher. This familiarity allows them to focus on developing healthy classroom habits, such as being respectful, taking turns, listening attentively, and caring for their personal space.

Through a rich curriculum that includes the telling of fables and legends from diverse cultures, second graders explore important moral lessons. The animal characters in fables offer humorous yet meaningful reflections on human behavior, while stories of saints and sages introduce children to the lives of those who performed noble deeds. These contrasting stories help students navigate the dualities of their own development at this age, inspiring a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.

In second grade, students continue their journey of learning through engaging and imaginative lessons brought to life by their class teacher, fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity that is central to the Waldorf approach.
