4th Grade

Welcome to 4th Grade!

The Journey Continues

In fourth grade, there is a growing sense of independence, as students begin to navigate their identities and relationships with peers and the world around them. The skills developed during this time are foundational for both academic success and personal growth.

In fourth grade, children learn to think critically and engage more thoughtfully with new concepts. They begin to tackle more complex subjects, fostering intellectual curiosity and problem-solving abilities. This year is also vital for enhancing social skills, as students collaborate on projects and learn to express their ideas more articulately.

Moreover, the emphasis on exploring history, culture, and geography helps students build a broader worldview. By connecting their learning to real-life contexts, they develop a deeper understanding of their community and beyond. Overall, fourth grade is a transformative year that prepares students for the challenges ahead, instilling a sense of responsibility and a passion for learning that will carry them through their academic journey.

About 4th Grade

The fourth grade at Nevada Sage Waldorf School marks a significant shift as students, now around the age of ten, step fully into middle childhood. With the foundational habits and skills of the earlier grades well established, fourth graders are ready for new challenges and responsibilities. They stand with a newfound sense of self-awareness, feeling, and begin to engage more deeply with the world around them.

The curriculum in fourth grade reflects this growing awareness. Students start by mapping their immediate environment—such as their bedroom—and expand outward to map their classroom, school, city, county, and eventually the state of Nevada. As they explore Nevada’s geography, students also delve into the rich history and culture of the state, learning about local indigenous peoples.

The stories brought to fourth graders are equally significant. Norse mythology introduces gods and goddesses, filled with passion, sacrifice, and wisdom, mirroring the inner world of the ten-year-old child. These tales offer valuable lessons about opposing forces and the balance of extremes, all while providing humor and wisdom.
