About
Nevada Sage Waldorf School

Nevada Sage Waldorf School is an independent, non-sectarian school serving children from Nursery through Grade 8. We are dedicated to providing an education that nurtures the whole child through rich, engaging experiences. Our school is a vibrant community of students, teachers, parents, trustees, and friends, all united by a shared joy in learning.

Our Mission

Our unique approach to education, based on the work of Rudolf Steiner, provides rigorous learning experiences that engage the mind, enliven the imagination, and honor the spiritual development of each child. Our rich curriculum lays the foundation for each student to become a confident, creative, and critical thinker who is ready to take the next step toward a life of meaning and purpose.

“Receive the children in reverence,
Educate them with love,
Send them forth in freedom.”

– Rudolf Steiner

From Humble Beginnings

In 2000, a group of dedicated parents united with a shared vision to bring Waldorf Education to the Reno/Tahoe/Sparks area. Our journey began with an early childhood program held in the home of our first teacher. In 2003, we moved to a small house, and in 2005 we expanded to a larger campus. Most recently, in the fall of 2014, we transitioned to our current campus, continuing to grow and evolve as a thriving educational community.

Our school is the first Waldorf school in Nevada.

We are proud to be one of over 1,000 Waldorf schools worldwide, located in 83 countries.  While each Waldorf school is unique and operates independently, we are all guided by the same core principles, developmentally appropriate curricula, and similar teaching methods. Waldorf curriculum was developed by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and is based on his studies of the developmental stages of childhood. Waldorf education is the fastest-growing private educational movement in the world.

Our Values

  • High levels of appropriate parental participation.

  • A healthy food environment.

  • Being mindful of our environment.

  • Appropriate and responsible use of technology, limiting the use of screens, including computers, social media, video games, and cellphones.

  • We respect children as individuals, and rely on student portfolio assessment rather than standardized testing to ensure they are meeting standards and fulfilling their academic potential.

  • Diversity and social inclusion.

  • Being a spiritual school, though not a religious school. We are all connected in some way, and out community gatherings and festivals help connect our school community.

  • A village of friends for the children and a community of support for parents.

  • For children to have a happy childhood, a strong foundation, and develop knowledge, skills, and abilities to attend any high school they wish.

  • A safe place for children and parents to raise their children.

Our Governance

Faculty | Administration | Board of Trustees

Nevada Sage Waldorf School is guided by a collaborative partnership among three interrelated governing bodies: the Faculty, the Administration, and the Board of Trustees. Each group shares a commitment to prioritizing the well-being of the students. Together, they work to establish consensus on the school's key policies, with decisions arising from open, respectful communication and trust. Our school thrives and evolves through a shared vision and thoughtful agreement.

Our Board

Our Board of Trustees is responsible for the fiscal and legal oversight of the school. They focus on policy decisions and reach consensus on matters that impact the budget, including tuition, salaries, and legal considerations. Board members generously contribute their time, energy, resources, and expertise to support and guide the school. Comprised of current parents and long-term supporters of Waldorf education, the Board plays a vital role in the ongoing success of Nevada Sage Waldorf School
