Welcome to 1st Grade!

The Journey Begins

In 1st grade, we embark on a transformative journey as children transition into formal academics. This crucial year ignites their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning through imaginative lessons and hands-on activities. Our purpose is to cultivate a love for learning by integrating rich storytelling, creative arts, and active engagement, all within a nurturing environment. As students develop foundational skills in literacy and numeracy, they also explore their creativity and build social connections, setting the stage for a lifelong passion for knowledge and discovery.

About 1st Grade

At Nevada Sage Waldorf School, the first grade marks an exciting transition as children step into the world of formal academics with enthusiasm and curiosity. During this pivotal time, often called the "seven-year change," is a time of growth and discovery. In this nurturing environment, first graders are supported in developing a love of learning through imaginative and engaging lessons.

In first grade, students begin to think in images, and their introduction to letters, writing, and numbers is woven through rich, vivid stories like fairytales from around the world and nature tales. These stories ignite their imaginations while laying the foundation for literacy and numeracy. To ensure learning remains dynamic and joyful, students engage in fun, active games that keep them moving and prevent long periods of sitting.

Beyond academics, the first grade experience is filled with creative, hands-on activities. Students enjoy singing, form drawing, watercolor painting, modeling with beeswax, and finger games. They also begin learning to play the recorder, practice knitting, and contribute to class chores. Additionally, they are introduced to subject classes such as Movement & Games and Spanish, further enriching their educational journey and supporting their holistic development.
